College Football Week 13
As the season begins to come to an end it’s time to get ready for rivalry weekend. Its the week when MOST teams have their rivalry game against their most HATED opponent. There’s a lot of GREAT games in store today and WOYSM will go over a few of those. There’s quite a few games on tap that you WON’T want to miss, so get ready to get your list together.
Starting with one of the OLDEST rivalry’s in the country. The #4 Clemson Tigers travel to Columbia, SC to take on MY #18 South Carolina Gamecocks. On paper and as far as rank the Tigers definitely have the edge but, NOT SO FAST. From what this Sports Mind has witnessed this season, even though I am partial, all partiality on the side, I still believe that the Gamecocks have an excellent chance of pulling off the upset and one area I give them the biggest edge is at the biggest skill position, QB. If you compare the stats for Tigers QB, Kelly Bryant and Gamecock starting QB, Jake Bentley, Bryant has 2154 passing yds. for 10-TD’s with 5-Int’s with a 134.4 rating, while Bentley has 2429 passing yds. for 15-TD’s with 9-Int’s and a 133.8 rating. Even though the numbers are close this Sports Mind feels Bentley is the better of the two. Clemson has won their last 4-games, beating the Citadel Bulldogs last week 61-3. The Gamecocks have won 4 of their last 5 games with the only loss during that stretch coming At the hands of the #8 Georgia Bulldogs, they defeated the Florida Gators last week 28-20. Make sure you add this one to your weekend schedule for SURE, its going to be a GOOD one.
Now that the #2 Miami Hurricanes have dropped the bomb on themselves by losing to the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday, it has suddenly opened the door for others to try and take their playoff spot which will certainly be coming open when the committee announces their newest rankings. One of those teams is the #6 Ohio St. Buckeyes. The Buckeyes however, won’t have an easy time defeating the #20 Michigan Wolverines. Even though the Buckeyes are favored and should win this game it don’t mean that will happen. The Buckeyes have been upset already this season by the Iowa Hawkeyes three weeks ago, so they are vulnerable. They have won their last 2-games and they beat the Illinois Fighting Illini 52-14 last week. The Wolverines have struggled this season, they have lost all 3-games against the other top teams in the conference (Wisconsin, Penn St. and Michigan St.) They haven’t beaten a ranked team yet this season and will give it a 4th try today against the Buckeyes. Michigan has won 3 of their last 4 games however, but they lost to the Badgers last week 24-10. This is still a GREAT game to watch with playoff implications involved, so make sure to add it to your list.
The Iron Bowl should be a DANDY this year as the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the #7 Auburn Tigers at Jordan Hare Stadium. Wouldn’t it be something if the #1 and #2 teams went down in the same weekend? Well hold that thought because it could happen, with the #2 Hurricanes already having lost. Undefeated Alabama should be able to get the win but it’s very possible that the Tigers could get the upset. The Crimson Tide defeated the Mercer Bears last week 56-0 and of course they should have. Auburn has won their last 4-games straight, they destroyed the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks last week 42-14 and of course they should have as well, But with the Tigers playing at home this game should be MUCH closer however. This should be the BEST game of the day to watch, at least it looks that way on paper, so you DEFINITELY want to add this one to the list.
This game is not a big as the others but like the others it pits two top 25 teams as well as in state rivals against each other. The #16 Washington St. Cougars at the #13 Washington Huskys should be a GREAT game in it’s own right. The Cougars have won 3 of their last 4 games, all of which were pretty impressive, but it was the loss that wasn’t. They beat the Colorado Buffaloes and Stanford Cardinal in two of those three games and they beat the Utah Utes 33-25 in their last game, the Cougars had their bye week last week. But the Cougars shouldn’t have lost to the Arizona Wildcats, which makes them vulnerable in this game, especially on the road. The Huskys have also lost some games to teams they should have beat, they have won 2 of their last 3 games with the loss coming at the hands of Stanford. Their other loss earlier was to the Arizona St. Sun Devils a game they should have won. The Huskys did manage to win their game last weekend over those same Utes 33-30. so looking the some of both teams results, it makes this game a virtual toss up. Also even though its a west coast game it has an early 8 PM start so make sure you put this game on your schedule as well.
Other Intriguing games you may want to check out are: the #8 Georgia Bulldogs at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Louisville Cardinals at the Kentucky Wildcats, the #3 Wisconsin Badgers at the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the West Virginia Mountaineers at the #5 Oklahoma Sooners, the Texas A&M Aggies at the #19 LSU Tigers and the #10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Stanford Cardinal. All of these games have the potential for an upset, so you don’t want to miss them, especially since the season is winding down. You KNOW how football ALWAYS leaves you wanting more when the season is over, since it goes by SO fast and to be honest, thats probably a GOOD thing 😉
