Larry’s Losers, Week 6

by Larry Leek

Larry's Losers

Thank goodness last week is behind us, after suffering thru a dismal week with a 6-8 record, even if the four teams that had a bye week had played I couldn’t have finished any better than .500. So with the pitiful week it brings the overall record for the season to 46-30 and before last week the overall record was beginning to look pretty good. OH well.

Hopefully this week my losers will be just that ha ha. There were In MY Sports Mind a couple upsets last weekend that could have changed my fortunes like the Pittsburgh Steelers losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars at home 30-9 or the Oakland Raiders losing to the Baltimore Ravens at home 30-17. To make it even worse MY Dallas Cowboys fell to 2-3 after losing at home to the Green Bay Packers 35-31. Even though the game was MUCH closer the sting was just as bad, especially when the proper clock management could have yielded a win vs a loss. But enough dwelling on the past, lets go to this weeks (HOPEFULLY) losers.

Thursday, October 12th

8:25 PM ET CBS

(4-1, 2-1 Away)

(4-1, 1-1 Home)

Bank of America Stadium
Charlotte, NC
Thursday night has an excellent matchup between two 4-1 teams. The Philadelphia Eagles have looked great thus far this season, they manhandled the Cardinals last Sunday 34-7 while the Carolina Panthers started out the season 2-0 before losing their first game, since then they have won their last two games over the Patriots and last Sunday against  the Lions 27-24, which were both impressive wins. The question here is after winning two straight before losing their first, then winning two straight again will the they have yet another let down this Sunday?
Larry’s Loser: Philadelphia.

Sunday, October 15th

1:00 PM ET CBS

(2-2, 1-1 Away)

(3-1, 1-1 Home)

Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Atlanta, GA
Last Sunday the Miami Dolphins pulled off a nice win over the Titans 16-10 to bring their record to 2-2, even though it wasn’t a blow out a win is after all, a win. They will have their hands full this Sunday as they take on the Atlanta Falcons who had a bye last week but are still feeling the sting from their loss two weeks ago to the Bills 23-17. Before that loss they had one their first 3 games of the season and they look to get back on the winning track against the Dolphins maybe being home will help.
Larry’s Loser: Miami.
1:00 PM ET FOX

(4-1, 1-1 Away)

(3-2, 2-1 Home)

U.S. Bank Stadium
Minneapolis, MN
GOOD matchup between these two division rivals. The Green Bay Packers offense was clicking on all cylinders against a vulnerable Cowboys defense pulling out the last minute win 35-31, BUT their defense looked just as vulnerable as did the Cowboys. The Minnesota Vikings bounced back last Monday night to beat the Bears in a close one 20-17, even though they have a BIG question mark at QB with Sam Bradford nursing an injured knee and 3rd string QB, Case Keenum now at the helm. The matchup at that position will be a complete MISmatch to say the least. Who knows perhaps Keenum will be able to take advantage of that vulnerable Packer defense, NOT.
Larry’s Loser: Minnesota.
1:00 PM ET FOX

(3-2, 2-0 Away)

(2-2, 0-1 Home)

Mercedes-Benz Superdome
New Orleans, LA
This game is very interesting, the Detroit Lions have looked very good this season, even though they lost a heart breaker to the Panthers Sunday 27-24, they look to return to the W column this weekend against a New Orleans Saints team, who after starting the season 0-2 have managed to win their last two. They defeated the Dolphins 20-0 two weeks ago and had their bye last week. Two Great QB’s dueling it out should make for a must see game, BUT which QB will come out on top?
Larry’s Loser: New Orleans.
1:00 PM ET CBS

(3-2, 2-0 Away)

(3-2, 2-0 Home)

MetLife Stadium
East Rutherford, NJ
The 3-2 New England Patriots who have looked beatable in all 5 of their games thus far mainly because of their dismal play on defense managed to squeak by the Buccaneers  last weekend 19-14. They play a 3-2 NY Jets team on the road that has won their last 3 straight mainly from great defensive play. They beat the Browns last Sunday 17-14. Can the Pats. offense score enough pts. to offset their defense while the Jets haven’t scored more then 23 pts. in any game this season?
Larry’s Loser: New York.
1:00 PM ET FOX

(0-5, 0-3 Away)

(2-2, 1-1 Home)

FedEx Field
Landover, MD
The 0-5 San Francisco 49ers are beginning to wonder IF they will ever get that first win after losing last Sunday to the Colts 26-23. Since week one, however, the 49ers four losses have all been by 3 pts. or less, so perhaps they are getting close to that 1st win. They play a 2-2 Washington Redskins team that has looked pretty good thus far this season. The skins had their bye week last weekend after suffering a gut wrenching loss to the Chiefs two weeks ago 29-20. Will this be the week that the 49ers finally get that 1st win OR will the Redskins be able to get back on the winning track?
Larry’s Loser: San Francisco.
1:00 PM ET FOX

(1-4, 0-2 Away)

(3-2, 1-1 Home)

M&T Bank Stadium
Baltimore, MD
Chicago Bears rookie QB, Mitchell Trubisky got his first start last Monday night in a loss to the Vikings 20-17, Trubisky looked very good in his first start and if not for some bad calls from the refs. the Bears could have won that game. The Baltimore Ravens pulled out the mild upset over the Raiders last Sunday 30-17 to bring their record to a respectful 3-2, they hope to continue winning this weekend at home. The question here is do the Bears have enough offense to keep up with the Ravens?
Larry’s Loser: Chicago.
1:00 PM ET CBS

(0-5, 0-2 Away)

(2-3, 1-2 Home)

NRG Stadium
Houston, TX
Another winless team, the Cleveland Browns travel to Houston to take on the Houston Texans. Three of the Browns five losses were by just 3 pts. including last weeks loss to the Jets 17-14. The Texans have been on a roller coaster ride thus far this season, looking at times like they were ready to take that next step but after last weeks loss to the Chiefs 42-34 and suffering even a MUCH bigger loss, by losing DE, JJ Watt for the season with a tibial fracture to his left leg their playoff hopes have been severely dampened. Will the Browns be able to take advantage and FINALLY get that first win?
Larry’s Loser: Cleveland.
4:05 PM ET FOX

(2-2, 0-1 Away)

(2-3, 1-1 Home)

U of Phoenix Stadium
Glendale, AZ
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have also been on a roller coaster ride this season. They placed a nice game defensively against the Patriots before losing 19-14 last Sunday, but bottom line, when your defense only gives up 19 pts. in My Sports Mind you should win. Another team thats struggled more than it has been successful is the Arizona Cardinals. In each of their 3-losses they have surrendered a minimum of 28 pts. In their games period the most they have scored in any game is 23 pts. Now they have acquired RB, Adrian Peterson from the Saints to try and boost their running game. Will he arrive in time to save their season?
Larry’s Loser: Arizona
4:05 PM ET FOX

(3-2, 2-0 Away)

(3-2, 1-1 Home)

EverBank Field
Jacksonville, FL
In a battle between to up and coming teams both at 3-2, the LA Rams head to Florida to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in what should be a great game. Last Sunday the Rams had a set back after losing to the Seahawks 16-10. The Jaguars have been up and down as well after winning every other game this season. They have had some nice wins as well as surprising losses. They completely manhandled the Steelers on the road last Sunday 30-9 but have lost to the Jets and Titans earlier this season. So which team will earn the reward Most Up And Coming by showing up?
Larry’s Loser: Los Angeles.
Arrowhead Stadium
Kansas City, MO
Just how much more punishment can the Pittsburgh Steelers take? They were embarrassed in front of their home crowd last Sunday by the Jaguars 30-9. Of the 3-teams they have beaten this year, they have a combined record of 6-9 and now they must hit the road to play the undefeated Kansas City ChiefsThe Chiefs have looked great so far this season and could be headed for their 6th straight win after hanging on to beat the Texans last Sunday night 42-34. But don’t let the 34 pts. fool you as far as the Chiefs defense is concerned. But will they be able to shut down the Steelers potent offense?
Larry’s Loser: Pittsburgh.
4:25 PM ET CBS

(1-4, 1-1 Away)

(2-3, 1-1 Home)

Oakland Coliseum
Oakland, CA
These two teams were figured to head in opposite directions this year, but both appear to be heading down the same road for now. The 1-4 LA Chargers who are accomplishing what most experts expected (Losing), head up the coast to play the 2-3 Oakland Raiders. The Chargers ONLY win came last Sunday against the 0-5 Giants 27-22The Raiders who were thought to be SB contenders at the beginning of the season are a mere AFTER thought now after dropping their 3rd straight game, losing to the Ravens last Sunday 30-17, but hold that thought. QB, Derek Carr said he expects to return against the Chargers this week so they could get that much needed shot in the arm. Will it be enough, however to get them back on the wining track? HUM Could BE.
Larry’s Loser: Los Angeles.
8:30 PM ET NBC

(0-5, 0-3 Away)

(3-1, 3-0 Home)

Sports Authority Field at Mile High
Denver, CO
Just how long will it be before the 0-5 NY Giants get their first win? After giving the Chargers their first win of the season last week 27-22, it don’t look good for a team thought to compete for the division title this year, now they are competing in the draft derby. The 3-1 Denver Broncos who’s only loss came at the hands of the Bills 3-weeks ago hope to pick back up where they left of before last weekends bye (Winning) when they beat the Raiders 16-10 two weeks ago. One huge advantage in their favor that could be near impossible for the Giants to overcome, the LOUD confines of Mile High Stadium.
Larry’s Loser: New York.

Monday, October 16th

(2-3, 0-2 Away)

(2-3, 1-1 Home)

Nissan Stadium
Nashville, TN
Don’t expect too much from this game. As far as Monday night games go this has to rate about a D-. In a game between two 2-3 teams the winner is guaranteed a new start at .500 while the loser will be all but out of the playoff race. The Indianapolis Colts ONLY two wins this season have came against two of the three winless teams (Browns & 49ers) NOTHING to brag about right? RIGHT. Last week they beat the hapless 49ers 26-23. The Tennessee Titans have had a couple of nice wins this season before QB, Marcus Mariota was injured. Last week they suffered their 2nd straight loss, losing to the Dolphins 16-10. Mariota hopes to return Monday night and that could be the difference maker.
Larry’s Loser: Indianapolis.
