College Football Week 5

by Larry Leek

Week 5 has a FEW good matchups well worth watching. Friday night has a nice game pitting the #8 USC Trojans At the #18 Washington St. Cougars. The biggest question concerning this game, will history repeat its self? USC has won 13 straight games dating back to last season, the second-longest active winning streak in the FBS. However, the last time the Trojans lost was when they last played on a Friday night.

The Cougars come into the game pretty evenly matched with the Trojans. Look for this game to be a dandy.

The Tennessee Volunteers fell out of the WOYSM College Football Top 25 after their loss two weeks ago to the Florida Gators. For now the only thing the Vol’s can do is play the spoiler role by trying to knock others OUT of the ranks. The #11 Georgia Bulldogs hope to have something to say about that. Last week the Bulldogs looked great against  Mississippi St. knocking off the Bulldogs 31-3 in Starkville, MS. While the Vols. got back on the winning track BARELY by defeating the UMass Minutemen 17-13.

Even though #21 Mississippi St. was beaten soundly last week by Georgia it won’t get any easier for the Bulldogs when they travel to Auburn, Al. to take on the #12 Auburn Tigers. The Tigers have won their last two games after losing to Clemson in week 2. This will be another great game to watch and should provide some nice fireworks.

The #3 Clemson Tigers travel to Blacksburg, VA to take on the #17 Virginia Tech Hokies in what should be a great game. The BIGGEST question is will the Hokies offense be able to manage ANYTHING against the one of the top ranked defenses in the country? The Hokies 4-0 are off to one of their best starts in recent years. After they went 10-4 last year it had been five years since the Hokies won 11 games which they did back to back in 2010 & 2011. The Tigers are hoping to successfully defend their national title they won last year, but it won’t be easy on the road in such a hostile environment.

So Whats On Your Sports Mind about this subject?

Take a look at the rest of the games below and see who your favorite team is playing.
