Larry’s Losers, NFL Week 3.

by Larry Leek

Larry's Losers

Starting out 9-0 last week was pretty cool, finishing 3-4 was not, but in the end a 12-4 record wasn’t too shabby 16-0 would have been great though. That brings the overall record to 21-9 and it also brings us to this week’s games. There are some really good games to watch this weekend which we will go over, so make sure you save enough footballmanship (and energy) for Sunday AND Monday Night.

The Atlanta Falcons looked almost Super in their win over the Green Bay Packers last week, picking up where they left off last year in their first two games of the season. They travel to Pontiac, MI this week to take on the Detroit Lions in what should be an excellent game to watch. Detroit has also looked equally impressive in their first two games as well.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked like they have something to prove last week when they destroyed the Chicago Bears . This week they face a Minnesota Vikings team still smarting from the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Vikings definitely want to prove they are no fluke after they looked almost unbeatable in week 1 against the New Orleans Saints. This will be another MUST SEE Matchup.

Have the NY Giants really fallen THAT far? Believe it or not starting out the season at 0-2 greatly decreases the Giants chances of making the postseason by nearly 85% according to past teams that started out losing their first two games. The Giants offense has looked terrible in their first two games scoring only a combined 13 pts. Last week they were humiliated at home by Detroit. The Philadelphia Eagles have looked pretty good even though they are 1-1, it’s still too early to tell which way they will go. The Eagles were defeated last week by The Kansas City Chiefs but they definitely held their own.

Seattle Seahawks QB, Russell Wilson could sure use some protection these days, he’s been sacked 6-times in the first two games. Seattle got their first win last week against a BAD San Francisco 49ers team squeaking by in a 12-9 win. The Tennessee Titans have looked very good under 3rd year OB, Marcus Mariota. Even though the Titans lost their game in week 1, they completely man handled The Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Sundays contest will not be an easy task for the young Titans and should provide yet another very GOOD game to watch.

The Dallas Cowboys started the season ranked #1 on the WOYSM NFL Top 12Last week’s annihilation at the hands of the Denver Broncos embarrassed the Cowboys and they look make up for the disaster with a win Monday Night over the Arizona Cardinals who has struggled so far this season. After the Cardinals dropped their opening game to Detroit, they barely managed to defeat the Indianapolis Colts last week, a team many feel is one of the worst in the NFL. But the game still shapes up to be a good one.

With that said lets find out who this week Losers will be:

Thursday, September 21st

(2-1, 1-0 Away)

(0-3, 0-2 Home)

The LA Rams and 2nd year QB Jared Goff have looked pretty good so far this season. Even though they lost last week to the Redskins 27-20 they have the nucleus to become a good team. The 0-2 San Francisco 49ers on the other hand have looked like anything but. In their first two games they have only managed 12 Pts. including 9 pts. in their loss last weekend against the Seattle 12-9. The difference maker in this game will be the fact the Rams have just TOO much for the 49ers (even though they don’t have a lot).                                                                                                                    Larry’s Loser: San Francisco.

Wembley Stadium

London, England

The Baltimore Ravens have been up and down this season. After their week 1 loss the Ravens bounced back in week 2, beating the Browns 24-10. The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like world beaters in week one and were brought back down to earth in week 2 by the Titans 37-16. The game is to be played in London and the question is which team will return to the mainland a winner and which will return as a LONG shot for the post?                                                        Larry’s Loser: Jacksonville

(1-1, 1-0 Home)

New Era Field
Buffalo, NY
After their drubbing of the Cowboys on Sunday 42-17, The Denver Broncos are the new world beaters. They moved into the WOYSM NFL Top 12 and probably should have been there all along. The Buffalo Bills have managed to start the season at .500. After beating the ha ha Jets in week 1, they actually played a respectful game last week against the Panthers even though they lost in the end 9-3, their defense played great. This game should turn out to be a nice game to watch IF you like defense and it SHOULD be a low scoring affair, BUT you know how that can go.
Larry’s Loser: Buffalo.
1:00 PM ET CBS

(2-0, 1-0 Away)

(0-2, 0-1 Home)

Soldier Field
Chicago, IL
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a bonafide SB contender with all of the talent the team has and theres no doubt and they LOVE playing at home but they are just a bit better than .500 on the road. The Steelers looked every bit their expectations last week by dominating the Vikings 26-9 and guess what they did it on the road. The Chicago Bears are winless thus far this season they were on the opposite end of the domination last week, getting spanked by the Bucs. 29-7. You can look for the domination to continue for BOTH teams.
Larry’s Loser: Chicago.

(2-0, 1-0 Away)

(2-0, 1-0 Home)

Ford Field
Detroit, MI
BIG Game Here! The Atlanta Falcons still looked to be in SB form after they defeated the Packers last week 34-23. It’s doesn’t get any easier for the dirty birds this week when they square off against the 2-0 Detroit Lions. Detroit has looked very good on offense thus far and QB, Matthew Stafford looks to be worth the raise he received. They had no problem beating the suddenly hapless Giants 24-10 on Monday night. For Stafford earning that paycheck however, might be a bit tougher this week.
Larry’s Loser: Detroit.

(0-2, 0-1 Home)

Lucas Oil Stadium
Indianapolis, IN
UM, WELL! This game has all the makings of a sleeper, meaning you could face the danger of falling asleep while watching. The ONE good thing is one of the 0-2 teams will (or should) emerge from the game with a win. The Cleveland Browns haven’t played TOO awful this season, their offense has managed just 28 pts. in their first 2-games while their defense has yielded 44. they lost 24-10 to the Ravens last weekend. The Indianapolis Colts are considered by some to be the worst team in the NFL (and I won’t get into the with/without QB, Andrew Luck). They were blasted in week 1 and actually played respectful against Arizona last weekend even though they lost 16-13. This game is a toss up for
Larry’s Loser: Indianapolis.

(1-1, 1-0 Home)

U.S. Bank Stadium
Minneapolis, MN
This game is going to be a beauty, so get ready for a battle. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will invade Minneapolis, Mn. and attempt to ambush the Minnesota Vikings but it won’t be an easy task by any means. The Bucs. haven’t been tested yet unless you consider the Bears one. They beat Chicago 29-7. Minnesota fell short last week in their 26-9 loss to the Steelers thus exposing some of their weaknesses, QB being one of those. Will they be exploited again this weekend?
Larry’s Loser: Minnesota.

(1-1, 0-1 Home)

Gillette Stadium
Foxboro, MA
The Houston Texans managed to pull off the win against a troubled Bengals team 13-9 to even their record at 1-1. The Texans were relieved to get the win,  but did they really beat anybody or are the Bengals hibernating? The New England Patriots bounced back from their week 1 loss to the Chiefs, defeating The New Orleans Saints on the road 36-20. Truth be known we probably won’t know if the Patriots are still their OLD SB selves until they play an actual GOOD team, which WON’T be this week.
Larry’s Loser: Houston.
1:00 PM ET CBS

(1-0, 1-0 Away)

(0-2, 0-0 Home)

MetLife Stadium
East Rutherford, NJ
The Miami Dolphins finally got a game in last week after having their week 1 contest postponed, due to hurricane Irma. They defeated the Chargers 19-17 last weekend. The NY Jets  are still looking for that 1st win after dropping their 2nd straight to the Raiders last week 45-20. Some say the Colts are the worst team in the NFL but are they really? Hummm could be the ha ha Jets.
Larry’s Loser: New York.
1:00 PM ET FOX

(0-2, 0-1 Away)

(1-1, 0-0 Home)

Lincoln Financial Field
Philadelphia, PA
The NY Giants have looked unbelievably bad on offense in their first two games, scoring just 13 pts. combined. They managed 10 against the Lions in their 24-10 loss on Monday night. The Philadelphia Eagles showed that they are a force to be reckoned with giving the Chiefs all they could handle before falling 27-20. If the Giants have any hopes of making the playoffs it could come to an end on Sunday.
Larry’s Loser: New York.
1:00 PM ET FOX

Bank of America Stadium
Charlotte, NC
Oh when the Aint’s come marching in!!!! (will anyone notice?) The New Orleans Saints march into Charlotte, NC Sunday hoping to come away w/ their first win. They were COMPLETELY outclassed last week by the Patriots 36-20 while the Carolina Panthers won a defensive struggle against the Bills 9-3. The Saints still have QB, Drew Brees but thats ABOUT IT….
Larry’s Loser: New Orleans.
4:05 PM ET FOX

(1-1, 0-1 Away)

(1-1, 0-1 Home)

Nissan Stadium
Nashville, TN
The Seattle Seahawks have struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball. they managed 9 pts. in week 1 and just 12 last week, even though that was enough to get the win over the 49ers 12-9. The Tennessee Titans look to be up and coming and perhaps the best team in the AFC South. They got on the winning track last week with a complete win over the Jag’s. 37-16 and the Titan train should stay that way at LEAST one more week.                                                       Larry’s Loser: Seattle.
4:25 PM ET CBS

(0-2, 0-0 Away)

Lambeau Field
Green Bay, WI
The hapless Cincinnati Bengals travel to Green Bay, WI to take on the Green Bay PackersBoth teams lost last week with the Bengals falling to Houston 13-9, while Green Bay lost to the Falcons 34-23. The Bengals offense like many in this early season has been anemic, managing just 9 pts. total after being shutout in week 1. One things for certain if the trend continues, they won’t have the ability to match the Packers offensive fire power.
Larry’s Loser: Cincinnati.

StubHub Center

If I had to pick a favorite to win the SB after the 1st two weeks it would have to be the Kansas City ChiefsSo far they have dominated the Patriots in week 1 and the Eagles in week 2, beating Philly at home 27-20. The LA Chargers (I’ll get used to that ONE day) should have beaten the Dolphins last week, but in the end they didn’t, losing 19-17 to fall to 0-2. After Sunday they will wish they HAD won when they fall to 0-3.
Larry’s Loser: Los Angeles #2.
8:30 PM ET NBC

(2-0, 1-0 Away)

(1-1, 0-1 Home)

FedEx Field
Landover, MD
Another possible SB contender, the Oakland Raiders have won both of their games and have high hopes of running it to 3-games. The ha ha Jets were only a bump in the road to the Raiders last week defeating NY 45-20. The Washington Redskins appear better on paper perhaps than on the field. Even though they are 1-1, their win came against the Rams last week 27-20 after losing to the Eagles in week 1. All indicators indicate that it could get ugly in DC this week.
Larry’s Loser: Washington.

Monday, September 25th

(1-1, 0-1 Away)

(1-1, 0-0 Home)

U of Phoenix Stadium
Glendale, AZ
The Dallas Cowboys entered the season as the #1 team in the WOYSM NFL Top 12 and it was VERY short lived after getting slammed last sunday by Denver 42-17. Of course they fell all the way to 6th but hope to start trending in the other direction come Sunday. The Arizona Cardinals haven’t exactly lived up to expectations as far as ANYONE is concerned. They squeaked out a win against hapless Indianapolis last week 16-13 after losing to the Lions in week 1. At least the Cardinals are home this week, too bad it won’t help.
Larry’s Loser: Arizona.
