NFL Is Back!
Week 1 in the NFL has finally arrived with plenty for fans to be excited about. The season kicked off Thursday night Sept. 7th in Foxboro, Ma. where the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots were humiliated at home by the Kansas City Chiefs 42-27. Don’t get too excited about the Patriots losing their opener though, the last 2 times the Pats. lost in their season opener they wound up winning the Super Bowl.
Some things in Thursday night’s game may be some indicators that it may not necessarily go that way this season. New England’s defense appeared to struggle all night, they gave up a whopping 537 yds. 185 rushing and 352 passing. While QB, Tom Brady now 40 was hit early and often by a blitzing Chief defense and sacked 3-times, but believe me getting hit/sacked at 40 is NOT quite the same as getting hit at 20.
Other BIG opening week news Dallas Cowboys star RB, Ezekiel Elliott received good news late Friday night when U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant blocked the NFL’s six-game suspension of Elliott. For now the running back will be able to play beyond Week 1 and probably for most, if not all, of the season. The Cowboys open their season against the New York Giants Sunday night where the Boys hope to break a two game losing streak to the Giants, of the Cowboys 4-losses last season two of those were to the NY.
Other interesting games involve the Arizona Cardinals at Detroit Lions. After going 9-6 last season, dropping their last 3-games, the Lions look to return to the post season this year, their only option may be as a wildcard because dethroning the NFC North Champion Green Bay Packers and QB, Arron Rogers won’t be an easy task.
In a game of young QB’s. Oakland Raiders, Derek Carr and Tennessee Titans Marcus Mariota promises to provide some nice fireworks in what should be a very good game to watch. The experts have been saying the last couple of seasons that the Raiders are SB contenders, will this be the year that the Raiders FINALLY put it all together?
The Seattle Seahawks appear to be a team on a mission, well their week 1 mission will be to Lambeau field to face the Green Bay Packers in what should be yet another EXCELLENT matchup on Sunday. QB, Russell Wilson has looked lean and mean during the preseason but he better be when faces the other QB, Aaron Rodgers is in his OWN home.
This is Whats On My Sports Mind about this subject:
Back years ago I used to enjoy listening to a prognosticator named Leonard Postero Sr. who had a neat and unique way of predicting games. His radio show was called Leonard’s Losers. He would talk about the college football matchups each week and then instead of picking the winner like most, Leonard would of course pick the loser. SO in Leonard’s honor WOYSM Owner/Editor Larry Leek is going to predict NFL the games each week in the same manner. So HERE we GO!
First I gotta say I’m HAPPY that MY Cowboys will have Zeke in the backfield for hopefully the ENTIRE 2017 season, But I’m still concerned that they were unable to beat the Giants last year. I predict however that will END come Sunday night.
Larry’s Loser: New York.
The Cardinals take their great defense to Pontiac, MI to face the Lions but this Ole Sports Mind believes that as anemic as the Cardinal’s offense can be at times, they will be able to put up enough to overcome the points their defense does yield to Detroit’s decent offense.
Larry’s Loser: Detroit.
The Raiders and Titans on paper appears to be a near toss up, two young QB’s both established leaders of their team and both coming off impressive 2016 campaigns but something has to give and I think Tennessee’s defense might be more prone to breaking at least at this point in the season. The Raiders defense appeared to be more established at the end of last season and that should carry over and be enough in this game.
Larry’s Loser: Tennessee.
By the end of last season the Seahawks and Packers were two teams headed in different directions. The Hawks fizzled out while the Pack looked like they might be SB bound before falling to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship. To this Sports Mind this is a home in home win, which means the home team wins most every time, including this time.
Larry’s Loser: Seattle.
Below is the remaining week 1 schedule.
Larry’s Loser: No one gets scalped eh defeathered this week, Washington.
Larry’s Loser: Still NO Teddy Bridgewater UM, UM, sorry Sam. Minnesota.
