Who Will Make It To Super Bowl 50?

by Larry Leek
NFL Conference Championships

With the conference championships set for this weekend it’s time to answer the age old question, “Who’s going to make it to the Super Bowl” ?

This weekends games pits four VERY good teams vying for a trip to Super Bowl 50. Over in the AFC it’s the defending Super Bowl Champs the  Eastern Division Champ, New England Patriots (12-4, 5-3 Away) traveling to Mile High Stadium to play the Western Division Champ, Denver Bronco’s (12-4, 6-2 Home).

The Patriots now have all their weapons back in the lineup with WR’s Danny Amendola and  Julian Edelman both back and also with a healthy Rob Gronkowski, TE,  most would have to consider the Patriots to be the favorite against the #1 defense in the NFL.

Denver’s highly touted defense will definitely have their hands full this weekend trying to stop the Patriots offense.

Denver’s  offense also has question marks, mainly at QB, where future Hall Of Fame QB, Peyton Manning has struggled most of the season when he has played. Manning sat out 5 games this season while mending injuries and 4th year QB, Brock Osweiler filled in for Manning during that period going 4-1, including a win over the Patriots who were without the services of Amendola & Edelman at the time.

Now with Manning back in the starting role and much healthier, even though Manning has played in two Super Bowls winning one of them, the question still remains can Peyton still manage to win a game of this proportion?

Over in the NFC its the upstart Carolina Panthers (15-1, 8-0 Home) and star QB, Cam Newton hosting the Arizona Cardinals (13-3, 7-1 Away) and QB, Carson Palmer who last weekend finally won his first ever playoff game in the OT win over Green Bay 26-20.

2015 Carolina Panthers

The big question is the same as for the Broncos and thats if the Cardinals defense will be able to stop the Panthers and Newton with their high scoring offense and if Cardinals QB, Carson Palmer can play better this week?

This week Palmer and company will have to play a perfect, turnover free game if they have any chance of beating the one loss Panthers who are also undefeated at home this season.

This is Whats On My Sports Mind about this subject:

First off I have to say what a GREAT season for QB, Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Newton appears to have finally became a complete QB and thats bad news to the rest of the NFL.

When you look at Cam’s number’s for the season, 296-495 for 3,837 Yds. 35 TD’s 10 Int’s. 66.1 QBR. and then when you look at the Panthers receiving corps. you have to give the 5th yr. QB all the praise he deserves, not to mention that he is also a beast running the football which is a rarity among NFL QB’s.

Even though My Sports MInd has NEVER been in favor of a running QB vs the traditional pocket passing QB, due to the end result should they happen to go down to injury and right along with it, their teams season goes down the toilet because of it, however with someone with the physical qualities that Newton presents (6′-5″, 245 Lbs.) how can you argue the point?

Also over in the AFC, guess who’s knocking on the door yet again?

The defending champ New England is back in the AFC Championship looking to make their 9th Super Bowl appearance and the 7th in QB, Tom Brady’s  career. They will be going up against the Denver Bronco’s and the #1 defense in the NFL last season and it’s strange that everyone’s talking up the Bronco’s #1 defense and not much is being said about their future hall of fame QB, Peyton Manning who has had probably his worst season since his rookie year. On the season Manning was 198-331 for 2,249 with ONLY 9 TD’s and 17 Int’s, WOW!!

Right now even though it’s hard to say it, My Sports Mind has to consider Manning the Bronco’s weak spot, but I’m sure Peyton will have something to say about that. The question is will it be enough to make a difference against the Patriots.

Now the next BIG question and the one everyone is waiting on is, “WHO will be the two teams advancing to square off in Super Bowl 50” ?

New England @ Denver                                                                                                                                                Well they always say defense wins championships and with Denver boasting the #1 defense in the NFL does that mean they are a lock? On the contrary even though they did have the leagues best defense in 2015, their offense can be a huge neutralizer and My Sports Mind tells me it WILL BE. My Sports Mind also has to consider the fact that QB, Tom Brady has all of his offensive weapons back, not to mention that this group of receivers is probably the best that Brady’s had at any time during his 16 year career.                                                                                                                 Final Score: New England 30 Denver 17

Arizona @ Carolina                                                                                                                                                      Like Denver, Arizona also boast’s a great defense and the same question arises, will it be enough and also can QB, Carson Palmer pull off the 2nd playoff win of his 13 year career? On the other side what can you say but Cam, Cam, Cam! and can he and the Panthers be stopped? The Panthers torched the league in scoring this season ranking #1 in PPG. averaging a whopping 31.0 ppg. and it will take ALOT from the Cardinals defense to neutralize Carolina’s  ferocious attack and get the win My Sports Mind does NOT think they will.                                                                     Final Score: Carolina 38 Arizona 24

Now as far as WHO will win the Super Bowl? Well thats another question for another article 😉

So Whats On Your Sports Mind about this subject?
