WOYSM’s College Football Top 25 (Week 5)
After the Ohio St. Buckeyes led the WOYSM College Football Top 25 the first five weeks (Including the preseason poll) we have a new #1 team, The Michigan St. Spartans take over as the top ranked team due to Ohio St’s mediocre win over the Indiana Hoosiers 34 to 27. Maybe they can hang on long enough to challenge the Buckeyes for the title of being ranked #1 the most times during the season. The Buckeyes currently lead the Spartans five weeks to one (Including the preseason poll).
Michigan St. slipped by TCU and Baylor and the Buckeyes to grab the top slot on the poll this week. Even though TCU and Baylor both won big, we feel the wins by the Spartans this season were more quality wins.
Florida St. moved back into the Top 5 after defeating Wake Forest 24 to 16, they replaced Georgia after their loss to Alabama 38 to 10 while LSU moved up to 6th followed by the Crimson Tide at #7.
Clemson moved up to eighth followed by Georgia and Notre Dame to wrap up the Top 10.
#11 Oklahoma, #12 USC and #13 Texas A&M all moved up after Ole Miss’s loss to #22 Florida who moved into the WOYSM Top 25 for the first time this season Mississippi fell all the way to 14th from 8th.
The rest of the WOYSM Top 25 have Utah, Northwestern, Oklahoma St, Missouri, Stanford, Iowa and California all moving up in the poll while the Gators, UCLA (who fell all the way from 14th after their loss to Arizona St. 38 to 23), Michigan (Who entered the WOYSM Top 25 for the first time) and Oregon finishing out the WOYSM Top 25.
Arizona and Wisconsin both fell from the WOYSM Top 25.
This is Whats On My Sports Mind about this subject:
Ohio State’s conference schedule as well as Michigan State’s could be their downfall in the end where as teams in the SEC and Big 12 appear to be gaining momentum as the season progresses. My Sports Mind says Thank goodness we now have College Football Playoffs to decide the ultimate champion and thus in the end make our and every ones Top 25 Poll just that our GUESS at who are the top teams in the country.
A few words about my South Carolina Gamecocks. After the loss to #18 Missouri yesterday and looking at their remaining schedule at best unless the Gamecocks 2-3-0 (SEC 0-3-0) can pull off one heck of a magic trick it looks like they could be looking at a 4-8-0 season and what would be their worst to date under Head Coach, Steve Spurrier.
My Sports Mind Would love to see the Gamecocks get back on the winning track but for now I don’t see it happening this season.
LSU currently looks to be the SEC’s strongest team and could well be the mighty conference’s top team when the final 4 teams are set for College Footballs Playoffs at season’s end.
Even though TCU and Baylor have been blowing out their opponents, how well will they fare against much tougher foes?
Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Iowa & Stanford have all looked great as of late and could continue moving up in the polls.
The number of teams per conference representing the WOYSM College Top 25 are as follows: SEC=7, Pac 12=6, Big 10=5, Big 12=4, ACC=2, Independents=1.
