WOYSM College Top 25 (Week 3)
Ohio State struggled to win. Alabama lost to Ole Miss and though the Crimson Tide’s opponent was much tougher than Ohio States was, For NOW The Buckeyes remain atop the poll and increase their lead as the weeks #1 ranked team to 4-straight weeks (Including the Preseason poll). While Alabama dropped all the way to #10.
The biggest upset this week was of course Alabama losing to then #15 Ole Miss. 43 to 37 and Georgia Moved into the Top 5 after Mauling South Carolina 52 to 20.
#2 TCU, #3 Baylor and #4 Michigan St. all moved up a notch due to Alabama’s loss, Baylor did not play.
#6 Florida St. struggled with Boston College and remained in the same slot as last week.
Notre Dame moved up to #7, while Ole Miss and LSU moved into the Top 10 and even though Oregon pasted Georgia St. they slipped three slots, out of the Top 10 to #11 for now.
#12 Clemson stayed at there while UCLA moved up to #13 and Oklahoma moved from #17 to #14.
USC dropped out of the Top 10 falling from 9th all the way to 15th after losing to Stanford 41 to 31.
Arizona, Missouri, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Utah and Northwestern all moved up two slots from last week while Oklahoma St. moved into the Top 25 for the first time this season.
Auburn dropped all the way from 11th to 24th after losing to LSU 45 to 21 and Georgia Tech. dropped from 16th to 25th after losing to Notre Dame 30 to 22.
This is Whats On My Sports Mind about this subject:
First I want to go ahead have a proper burial and eulogy my South Carolina Gamecocks. After getting POUNDED by the #5 Georgia Bulldogs 52 to 20 My Sports Mind tells me it’s going to be a LONG season for all my fellow Gamecock fans. With any luck at all the Gamecocks will manage to finish above .500 but from what I’ve seen thus far and taking their remaining schedule into account, the chances of that are NOT good.
Ohio St. struggled to win against a stubborn N. Illinois team who probably should have moved into the Top 25 but it’s tough to move a team into the poll after a loss even though it was to the #1 team in the land. Ohio St. on the other hand came very close to dropping after such a narrow win over an unranked team but My Sports Mind tells me that N. Illinois is not your ordinary unranked team.
Even Alabama’s vaunted defense couldn’t keep Mississippi’s powerful offense out of the end zone and thus the end result almost caused the Crimson Tide to fall OUT of the Top 10 but they remain for now and the big question becomes, Can they stay there?
The conference’s with representatives in the Top 25 are as follows:
SEC=8, Pac 12=5, ACC=4, Big 12=4, Big 10=4. So for now anyway the SEC still leads the pack, how long that will hold up remains to be seen as well where the conference powers there seem to be shifting and Mississippi currently looks to be the strongest representative.
