Now There’s ONE

by Larry Leek

With the huge win over Virginia yesterday handing the Cav’s their 1st loss of the season 69-63 In Charlottesville, VA. More than likely after the polls are released the win should establish Duke as the #2 team in the country, behind #1 Kentucky. Couple that w/ the fact that Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski had just won his 1000th game against St. Johns. It seems to have helped the Blue Devils become more confident in themselves. The Cavaliers started out playing like they were going to cruise to their 20th win w/ Virginia greats like Ralph Sampson & Sean Singletary in attendance to root the Cavs to victory. Virginia started the 2nd half w/ a 16-4 run leading by 11 w/ less than 11 minutes to play & with 4:48 to play they led by 8 & it appeared they were going to add to the lead when Duke reeled off a 16-5 run in the end giving the Blue Devils the victory. The win runs Duke’s record to 18-3, 5-3 while Virginia fell to 19-1, 7-1. It was a very meaningful game for Duke getting the win in Charlottesville BUT just how big will this victory mean to this Duke team?

This Is Whats On MY Sports Mind about this subject.

Getting the 1000th win for coach K can mean everything to this basketball team & can give them PLENTY of motivation going into their remaining schedule & also into the NCAA tournament. Just how much they use it as motivation is up to them. In other words the SKY’s the limit. Lets not forget the Kentucky Wildcats are on the horizon, but I have previously said the Blue Devils were one of 2-teams to have a great chance to defeat the undefeated Wildcats & they just defeated one of the 2.
